From Ann to Dad: ‘I don’t know what you would like me to call you’

Hi Dad

Or should I call you Daddy? Perhaps you would prefer the more formal father? I don’t know what you would like me to call you. I never met you and I never will. Single mother + unknown father = illegitimate child. You were unknown to me. Was I unknown to you?

At the stroke of a pen my past was wiped out and a new persona created. Identity theft is a crime, perhaps I should report it? Who would I report it to? What do you think, Dad?

My birth mother took her secrets and your name to her grave. She removed herself from my life and took my identity with her. The Church, the State and society aided and abetted her. Who gave them that right? What do you think, Dad?
